SUNDAY SCHOOL APPEAL: We are looking for volunteers for a Sunday School Superintendent so we can get our Sunday School up and running again! Please speak to Rev. Ian if you are interested!

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP HERE AT FIRST UNITED: Grief is a normal emotional response to significant loss. The abnormality of grief is frequently a consequence of the refusal to grieve or the inability of the grieving person to find those willing to care. Grief is universal and inescapable. Grieving is the intentional work grief stricken persons engage in enabling them to return, eventually, to full and satisfying lives. Guilt, shame, loneliness, anxiety, anger, terror, bewilderment, emptiness, profound sadness, despair, helplessness, are all a part of grief, and all are common to being human. To explore these feelings, we are starting a Grief Support Group here at First United. The first meeting will be held on October 10th at 7:30 pm in Trinity Hall.

COMMUNITY SUPPER HELPERS NEEDED: If you have some extra time available on Wednesday, October 25th to help with the next Community Supper being held at Church of the Good Shepherd please speak to Rev. Ian. Two workers are needed for 11 am and three workers are needed for 2 pm.

Donations can be dropped off at the church or at any Evergreen Recycling location using the automated system and the church phone number. (Closest locations are Waterford Hospital or Blackmarsh Road).

NoticeWEEKLY BULLETIN DEDICATIONS: Now that we have resumed printing bulletins, you may dedicate a bulletin in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special event. If you would like to do so, please put your name and phone number for a specific date on the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board in the vestibule or call the church office at 368-2194.

Property Committee Roof Report – As some of you know, the church roof shingles were in very poor condition. In fact, we’ve been trying for the last two years to have them replaced. Finally, on August 2nd and 3rd, the shingles were replaced. The completed project had at cost of $31,000 or $250 per bundle of shingles.  If you would like to help “keep the roof over our heads”, please consider donating a bundle or part bundle of shingles. All contributions, regardless of size, are graciously appreciated.

“We respectfully acknowledge the territory in which we gather as the traditional territory of the Beothuk and Mi’kmaq.  We are conscious of the long and painful history of relations between the Christian church, colonial settlement practices and the harm caused to these lands and peoples.   May we always seek to live with respect on this land as we search for collective healing and true reconciliation and honour this beautiful land together.“

We welcome today into the Body of Christ, through the Sacrament of Baptism:

Celina Mercy Perera, daughter of Mihiri and Chandima Perera

Thank you to the United Church Women for donating the Baptism Candle and the Children’s Bible.

Please Note: It is the policy of First United Church that pictures not be taken during the Sacrament of Baptism Ceremony.  The Minister will be available after the service for pictures. Thank you for your co-operation.
