SUMMER STUDENT: First United had applied for a government grant to hire a summer student here at the church which has just been approved. The position is for 35 hours a week for the months of July and August. Duties are to help with several special projects the Board would like finalized. The deadline to apply is this Tuesday, May 28th. For more information or to submit an application please contact our Board Chair, Joan Winsor at joanwinsor59@gmail.com

THANK YOU to Olga and Neil Chaplin who donated 48 Voices United hymn books which contain music as well as words in them and five sets of liturgical altar cloths. We had only a limited number of hymn books with the music included so these will be put to good use. The liturgical altar sets are just beautiful! Your generosity is most appreciated! God Bless You!

QUILTING GROUP: The group meets the first, third and fifth Monday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room. The next meeting will be on Monday, June 3rd. All levels are welcome to join. For more information contact Pam Morgan at 709-691-0214 or pmorgan@mun.ca

USHER CAPTAIN: Our Worship Committee is in need of an Usher Captain for one of our usher teams. If you can commit to heading up one of our usher teams a couple of times a year, please contact Sara Case at 709-746-0935. 

SAVE THE DATE!! UPCOMING CONCERT! We will be having a concert here at First United Church on September 20th featuring Kevin Collins.  Tickets are $30.  Tickets and more information at a later date. 

FOOD BANK SUNDAY: The first Sunday of the month is designated as Food Bank Sunday. Envelopes are available on the table in foyer.

BUILDING FUND SUNDAY: The last Sunday of the month is designated as Building Fund Sunday. Envelopes are available on the table in foyer.  if you would like to make a contribution.  Thank you for your continued support. 

RECYCLABLES?

 Our Youth Group collects beverage containers for recycling. If you would like to drop off your beverage recycling at the church, here’s what can be recycled: aluminum can; plastic containers; glass bottles; steel cans; drink boxes (tetra); mini sips (drink pouches) etc. (Please wash out all bottles and remove all caps before dropping them off.) This is a great fund raiser for the youth and the Youth Group thanks you for your support.

NoticeWEEKLY BULLETIN DEDICATIONS: Now that we have resumed printing bulletins, you may dedicate a bulletin in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special event. If you would like to do so, please put your name and phone number for a specific date on the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board in the vestibule or call the church office at 368-2194.

FATHER’S DAY MEMORIALS:  Father’s Day is coming up on June 16th.  If you would like to submit a memorial or donation in honour of a father, grandfather, great-grandfather or father figure in you life, please submit to the office by June 12th

ROWBOAT TICKETS COWAN HEIGHTS:  Cowan Heights Men’s Club are selling tickets on a beautiful Hand-built Newfoundland Rodney Rowboat, hand-crafted by one of their members.  Retail value is $2,000.  Tickets are $5 each and the draw will take place on July 7th. If you would like to purchase tickets, you can pick them up at their church office. 

TOPSAIL UNITED CHURCH will be holding a Flea Market on Saturday, June 1st from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Admission is $1.  All are welcome.

GO BEYOND: YOUTH MISSION PROGRAM: The Go Project is thrilled to announce the return of in-person youth mission projects this summer! These exciting projects will take place in Toronto and St. John’s, offering young people a unique and impactful experience.  Age range 12 – 16. For more information contact Rev. THE GOSPEL FOLK SENIORS CHOIR in collaboration with St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church is having an afternoon of gospel and folk music on Sunday, June 2nd, at 2 pm at St. Mary the Virgin Church, 1 Cornwall Crescent. Admission $10 at door (cash only). All proceeds to go to the local food banks.

COWAN HEIGHTS REVIVAL CONCERT: Sunday, May 26th at 7 pm under the direction of Jason March. Solo performance by Tyler Young. Tea/coffee will be served after the show.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling their church office at 709-745-2871 or Ros at 709-745-1345.

BRIDGES TO HOPE STATISTICS FOR APRIL MONTH.  During the month of April, Bridges distributed 608 food hampers, served 1181 individuals, 48 of these were first-time visits. Please continue to support Bridges in the coming months. 



BRIDGES TO HOPE: If you would like to pick up a few items to help out Bridges, please place donations in bin in the foyer here at First United. The monthly item needed for May is Kraft Dinner.  Other non-perishable food items are always welcome and appreciated!
