FOOD BANK SUNDAY: The first Sunday of the month is designated as Food Bank Sunday. Envelopes are available on the table in foyer.
GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP HERE AT FIRST UNITED: Grief is a normal emotional response to significant loss. The abnormality of grief is frequently a consequence of the refusal to grieve or the inability of the grieving person to find those willing to care. Grief is universal and inescapable. To explore these feelings, we have started a Grief Support Group here at First United. The next meeting will be held on November 14th at 7:30 pm in Trinity Hall.
UCW MEETING/ANNUAL SHOWER OF PERSONAL CARE ITEMS: The next meeting of our UCW will take place on Monday, November 13th at 12:30 pm. We will be having our Annual Shower of personal care items for Carew Lodge and Emmanuel House at this meeting. We are seeking the support of the congregation for this appeal. If you have new items that you would like to contribute, please drop them off during the November 13th meeting between 1:30 and 3 pm at the Churchill Avenue entrance or during regular office hours. Personal care items include some of the following: towel and facecloth, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, body sponge, hand cream, brush and comb, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, slippers, dishcloths, dish towels, tissues, little treats like candy or chocolate.
QUILTING GROUP: The Quilting Group meets the first, third and fifth Monday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room. The next meeting is scheduled for November 20th. All levels are welcome to join. For more information contact Pam Morgan at 709-691-0214 or pmorgan@mun.ca
BOOK CLUB: The name of the book reading for November month is ‘The Faith of Queen Elizabeth: The Poise, Grace, and Quiet Strength Behind the Crown’ by Dudley Delffs. RECYCLABLES?
Our Youth Group collects beverage containers for recycling. If you would like to drop off your beverage recycling at the church, here’s what can be recycled: aluminum can; plastic containers; glass bottles; steel cans; drink boxes (tetra); mini sips (drink pouches) etc. (Please wash out all bottles and remove all caps before dropping them off.) This is a great fund raiser for the youth and the Youth Group thanks you for your support.
WEEKLY BULLETIN DEDICATIONS: Now that we have resumed printing bulletins, you may dedicate a bulletin in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special event. If you would like to do so, please put your name and phone number for a specific date on the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board in the vestibule or call the church office at 368-2194.
Property Committee Roof Report – As some of you know, the church roof shingles were in very poor condition. In fact, we’ve been trying for the last two years to have them replaced. Finally, on August 2nd and 3rd, the shingles were replaced. The completed project had at cost of $31,000 or $250 per bundle of shingles. If you would like to help “keep the roof over our heads”, please consider donating a bundle or part bundle of shingles. All contributions, regardless of size, are graciously appreciated.

HEARTFELT THANKS FROM BRIDGES. Your generosity to help feed the hungry is much appreciated! In the month of October Bridges served 1127 individuals, distributing a total of 690 food hampers, an increase of 32% needing assistance.166 were emergency servings, 74 were first time visits, and 284 children were served. If you would like to pick up a few items to help out Bridges, please place donations in bin in the foyer here at First United. The monthly item needed for November is crackers. 70th Anniversary Fundraisers
PEACE GARDEN UPDATE: To date the Peace Pole, all stones and benches have been donated. The updated total figure for the Peace Garden sits at $11,456.42. Our goal figure is $27,000. Thank you so much to all those who have so generously donated!! We are still accepting donations, which will all be recognized.
PEACE GARDEN FUNDRAISER: The Peace Garden Committee are selling Purdy’s chocolates to help raise funds towards the peace garden cost. All orders are done online. Great idea for Christmas gifts!
