Sunday School
Sunday School is so much fun at First United. There is laughter, singing, games, craft time, story time, prayer time and snack time.
Sunday School Classes
Sunday School classes range in age groups from toddlers to Junior High. If you have a child in that age group, come join us on a Sunday morning. They will totally enjoy it!
Sunday Morning Routines
We start our Sunday morning by first joining parents and friends for worship in the Sanctuary. After their special time of story, music and sharing. the children head downstairs to Trinity Hall where there is fun, music and more stories.
The morning routine starts with everyone gathered arond and sitting on the floor together. The children take turns lighting our Christ candle which reminds us that God is present with us while we are downstairs, while we worship in our way, just as God is present upstairs with the big people while they worship.
Participating in Special Services
The children take part in several worship services throughout the year including White Gift, Palm Sunday and Christian Family Sunday. All the children are involved in these services with as many as possible also having individual parts to sing, read or say.
It makes the children feel so proud when they take part and they are always quick and eager to volunteer when asked. All this is to the delight of the congregation.
Outreach Programs
The Sunday School takes part in two Outreach Programs each year:
- collecting nichels for our foster child; and
- collecting pop can tabs
Our foster child is a little boy from Haiti. Throughout the year, the children collect their least coins, the nickel, and fill our container at the Sunday School. At the end of the year the money is donated to the Foster Children’s Fund for the care of our foster child, a little boy from Haiti. During the year, we talk about our foster child, learning about him and about his home in Haitif
The Pop Can Tab Program is very exciting for the children. The aluminum from the tabs is recycled and made into wheelchairs. The wheelchairs are then donated to those who really need them.
